We can take great comfort in the prophesies of Jesus’ lineage and birth. Some skeptics might argue that Jesus took the role of Messiah upon himself and was able to persuade others to follow him. However, these skeptics ignore the predictions made about the Messiah that Jesus had no way of controlling. We had no control over who our parents were and where we were born. In this Christmas season, take great comfort in the fulfillment of the prophesies. Scripture says The Messiah would be…

The Son of a Woman
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.  Genesis 3:15

The Son of a Virgin
The Lord himself will give you a sign. The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:15

The Son of Abraham
…and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.  Genesis 22:18

The  Son of Isaac
But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your maidservant. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”   Genesis 21:12

The Son of Jacob
“I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth.”   Numbers 24:17

God said to him, “Your name is Jacob, but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.” So he named him Israel.  And God said to him,  ‘I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will come from your body.  The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.”   Genesis 35:10-12

The Son of Judah
The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his.  Genesis 49:10

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”   Micah 5:2

The Son of Jesse
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.  Isaiah 11:1

In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious. Isaiah 11:10

The Son of David
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.”  Jeremiah 23:5

Born in Bethlehem
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”   Micah 5:2

The prophecies and the birth of Jesus line up. He is the long awaited Messiah.
