Verse List – Is Anything too Hard for God?

Note: These verse lists are given as quick, topical studies to help moms and dads do studies on a date with their child, for family devotions, or for teens to do on their own.

Unbelief: Sarah’s laugh of unbelief (Genesis 18:12-13) still finds its equivalent today in cynicism or a resigned laugh toward God and our circumstances.

Response: The Lord responds with a gently, rebuking question: “Is anything too hard for the Lord? (Genesis 18:14), This theme of the power of God over impossible circumstances is repeated  many other places as well including:

Job 42:3 – I know that you can do all things.
Matthew 19:26 – With man this is impossible but with God all things are possible.
Luke 1:37 – Nothing is impossible with God.
Ephesians 3:20 – Now […]

Proverbs and Money

Some devotional help for our children! Kevin DeYoung recently taught his congregation the following 10 Principles on Money from Proverbs.

Ten Principles on Money and Possessions from Proverbs

2. Don’t worry about keeping up with the Jones’ (Prov. 12:9; 13:7).
3. The rich and poor are more alike than they think (Prov. 22:2;29:13).

Memorizing Long Sections of Scripture – Repost

Since we are focusing on memorizing Scripture, I thought it would be good to do a repost from a couple of years ago. Chap

Memorizing Scripture is an excellent means of grace to our souls. We can memorize individual verses for specific times. And we can memorize long passages of Scripture to meditate on the flow of the thought of the speaker or writer. But how to memorize long sections of Scripture? One of the most helpful treatments I have found on this subject is a pamphlet by Dr. Andrew Davis.  His suggested method boils down to this:

1. Recite  yesterday’s verse 10 times. Make sure to recite the reference.

2. Recite all of the Scripture that you have memorized including yesterday’s verse.

3. Read today’s verse 10 times […]

8 More Benefits of Memorizing Scripture

1 Memorizing Scripture will help me be prosperous and fruitful. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth but meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8. And on his law he meditates day and night…whatever he does prospers. Psalm 1:3. Sin leads us to fruitlessness and failure. God’s word within leads to spiritual prosperity and fruitfulness.
2. Memorizing Scripture will help me parent better. These commands that I give you today are to be on your heart. Deuteronomy 6;6 God says the way to love him and influence our children is for us to have the words on our heart. […]

7 Benefits of Memorizing Scripture

1. Memorizing Scripture will help me fight temptation. But answered, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 Here Jesus fights off temptation (three times!) by replying, “It is written.” Jesus quoted memorized Scripture from the Old Testament. Scripture will help us fight off temptation.
2, Memorizing Scripture will help me witness. “But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel…” Acts 2:16. Three times, Peter quoted memorized Scripture from the Old Testament in his spontaneous Pentecost sermon. How many times have you fumbled over your own words when you could have asked someone about a Scripture.
3. Memorizing Scripture will keep me from being conformed to this world. Do […]
